How to (Parent) Volunteer

For Day or Overnight Activity Screening parents will require their OWN MyScouts Account and log in based on the email provided. (ie if Mom is participating, she would sign into the account under her name. If Dad is participating, he would sign into the account under his name) If you do not have your own MyScouts Account, please contact your Section Scouter to arrange for an account to be added connected to your Child.

CODE OF CONDUCT

For Day or Overnight activities you will need to sign the Code of Conduct for Adults. This is done electronically through your MyScouts account. You need to contact your Section Scouter so they can arrange to have a Role added to your profile. The next time you sign in you will be asked to Accept the Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct is renewed annually. You can view the Code of Conduct online at any time here.

BEGIN THE PRC/VSS PROCESS

For overnight activities, you must undergo both a Police Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Screening. This must be done even if it has been completed elsewhere (e.g., at school, hockey coach)

Only Toronto residents whose postal code begins with "M" may apply for a PRC/VSS through Toronto Police Service (TPS). If your postal code is different please contact your Section Scouter or Group Commissioner to help find alternative options for the PRC/VSS.

First-time Volunteers must apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check (this will complete both the PRC and VSS). There is a fee paid through the website for the VSC.

Go to https://www.tps.ca/services/police-record-checks/ for full information how to apply online. You will need two pieces of government issued identification. All details on acceptable forms of identification are available at the link. Create an Adult Police Record Check Account, then follow the steps.

Contact your Section Scouter or Group Commissioner for the Agency Code to process the PRC/VSS.

You will be able to opt to send your VSC to agency (Scouts Canada) electronically. Please also email a copy of your results to registration@scouts.ca with the subject "PRC to Process" stating your name and Group (91st Toronto) in the body of the email. Make sure to download a copy of your VSC results to ensure future access. After 30 days, your VSC will be taken down.

If you would prefer to submit your PRC/VSS by mail or in person, please contact your Section Scouter or Group Commissioner for more information. Online applications will begin processing much sooner than ones submitted by mail or in person. Online applications typically take 7-10 business days where paper applications can take over four weeks to be returned.

You can check the progress of your application if you applied online by logging into the application system.

PRC need to be renewed every 3 years. Renewal can be completed via MyBackCheck using the Scouts Canada Portal (https://pages.sterlingbackcheck.ca/landing-pages/s/scoutcanada/) Choose our Council: Greater Toronto Council and continue to the MyBackCheck site to complete your PRC. Once completed the information is sent directly to Registration to be entered into MyScouts. There is a fee paid through the website for the PRC.

If you would prefer to use TPS please use the instructions for the VSC but apply for Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check.
